Zimmerman helps honor women in law enforcement

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - New San Diego police Chief Shelley Zimmerman celebrated her colleagues at Wednesday's Women in Blue Luncheon.

The San Diego Police Foundation and local community leaders put on this event each year to recognize women considered trailblazers in law enforcement.

This year's honorees are Assistant Sheriff Patricia Duke, San Diego police crime lab manager Jennifer Shen and Daphne Hearn of the FBI.

"The three women that are being recognized here today are outstanding leaders in their own field, and I'm just honored and proud to be here with them. This is their day," Zimmerman told CBS News 8.

Zimmerman, who was confirmed as the city's first female chief on Tuesday, also took time to thank the community for their support of her department.
