Parolee surrenders after tense standoff

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - It was a tense morning for police after a standoff involving a wanted man in Linda Vista.

A fugitive crashed a pickup into a parked car then ran through a backyard and hid in a crawl space before finally giving up.

CBS News 8 cameras were there overnight as the man finally came out of a house peacefully. San Diego police say a parolee with an outstanding warrant led them on a chase.

It started overnight at the 2200 block of Judson Street. The suspect jumped into a Nissan pickup and sped away before crashing into a parked car and running through a backyard.

He ran through a backyard and into a house at the 1900 block of Westinghouse Street.

The standoff turned into an extensive search.

"It took about three hours in a methodical search in the interior, garage and attic. He was in a crawl space under a house and came out peacefully after about 20 minutes of negotiation," said Lt. Paul Rorrison with SDPD.

Detectives removed four adults and six children from the house.

The man was charged with an outstanding warrant and evading police. They also arrested his family member who was wanted by cops.

Nobody was hurt.

The identities of the two men were not yet released.
