SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Three men allegedly assaulted a San Diego State University student during a robbery attempt early Saturday on the campus, but ran off empty-handed.

The trio of suspects and the victim had met Friday evening, and were walking shortly before 2 a.m. near the Cal Coast Credit Union Open Air Theatre on the campus, SDSU police said.

The suspects punched and kicked the student and tried to steal the student's wallet, but were unsuccessful, campus police said. The student sustained minor injuries.

The suspects then ran off toward the College Avenue footbridge, police said.

Police said one suspect, who possibly uses the name "Cameo," is black, about 5 feet 8, and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans.

The second suspect, who possibly goes by "Tyler," is white, about 5 feet 10, and was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt and black earrings.

The other suspect is black, about 6 feet tall and has a goatee. He was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans and is possibly named "Chris," police said.

Police asked anyone with information to contact them at (619) 594-1991, or via email at policemail.sdsu.edu, or to call Crime Stoppers at (619) 235-8477.
