Gas leak prompts evacuation of hotel

SAN DIEGO (CNS/CBS 8) - A solo-vehicle car crash severed a gas line in Mission Valley early Monday, prompting evacuations of a nearby hotel, authorities said.

The natural gas leak in the 2400 block Hotel Circle Place was reported at 1:54 a.m., according to a San Diego fire-rescue dispatcher.

As a precaution, about 100 guests of Premier Inns Mission Valley at 2484 Hotel Circle Place were evacuated, she said. An SDG&E crew was summoned to stop the leak.

The vehicle involved in the crash was a cab, said San Diego police Officer Dino Delimitros. No injuries were reported.

The cabbie says he was writing a receipt in his taxi when he accidentally stepped on the accelerator and hopped the curb hitting the pipeline.

The motel guests were relocated to different rooms. Work crews are patching up the pipe.
