ALPINE (CBS 8) - A woman's charred body found on the side of an Alpine road over the weekend has been identified.

Authorities are now investigating the case as a homicide, and the victim has been identified as 35-year-old Kimberly Hayes of Lakeside. Her body was reportedly set on fire and dumped on a dirt road near Alpine Sunday, March 9.

The Medical Examiner's office has reported finding evidence of foul play. At this time, there is no word on a suspect.

A Sweetwater Authority employee made the discovery off the 17500 block of Sequan Truck Trail near Japatul Road. He called the sheriff's department shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday, according to sheriff's homicide Lt. Glenn Giannantonio. Deputies arrived to find the body still smoldering in the roadway.

Anyone with information in this case is asked to call the San Diego Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
