MIRA MESA (CNS) - San Diego sex crimes detectives continued to be on the lookout Saturday for a man who sneaked into an upstairs Mira Mesa apartment where a woman and her children were sleeping.

Police on Friday released a composite sketch of the suspect in the break-in early Wednesday at the West Star Apartments in the 10100 block of Black Mountain Road.

The woman awoke shortly after 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday to find the man standing in her room, according to San Diego police Lt. Chuck Kaye. She confronted the suspect, but he escaped through the balcony door before police arrived, according to Kaye.

The woman and her daughter were unharmed, police said.

Police described the suspect as a Hispanic or Asian man in his early to mid-20s, between 5 feet 6 and 5 feet 8, with a medium build. He had short, light brown hair and a slight beard and thin mustache.

He was wearing a necklace, a white t-shirt or tank top and unknown colored pants or shorts. A witness told investigators the suspect was not wearing shoes.

Kaye asked anyone with information about the incident to call police at (619) 531-2289, or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
