Restoration projects provide economic stimulus

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A new report by the US Fish and Wildlife Service found habitat restoration projects help not only the environment, but also the economy.

Officials announced the results of the report Tuesday at the South San Diego Bay Salt Ponds.

An analysis of data found restoration programs across the country created more than 3,900 jobs in 2011, generating a total economic stimulus of $327 million.

The salt ponds project here in San Diego generated 130 jobs alone. The work restored 300 acres of shorebird habitat.
