Thousands of pounds of trash picked up by volunteers

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Even though it was a bit chilly and breezy Saturday, thousands of volunteers set out to clean up trash in San Diego's creeks and bays.

The 12th Annual Creek to Bay Clean Up was held Saturday, April 26. More than 100,000 pounds of trash were picked up from clean up sites all over town. Litter was removed from the streets, parks, creeks and beaches to keep pollution from seeping into our bays and the ocean.

Participants say they really care about the environment and enjoyed the day.

"Feels really good to help out the community and get to know people," said one volunteer.

Creek to Bay is part of the National Great American Clean Up event to keep America beautiful.
