Maybin gets 2 hits in return, Padres beat Nats

WASHINGTON (AP) — Cameron Maybin celebrated his return to the lineup with a pair of hits, Ian Kennedy pitched seven strong innings and theSan Diego Padres beat the Washington Nationals 4-2 Sunday.

Maybin had been out since rupturing his left biceps in spring training. The center fielder doubled down the third-base line in his first at-bat, then singled and scored during a two-run sixth.

Chris Denorfia had two hits, two walks and scored twice for the Padres. He singled home the go-ahead run in the fifth as San Diego earned a split of the four-game series.

Kennedy (2-3) struck out nine, walked none and retired 16 straight batters at one stretch.

Huston Street closed for his ninth save in nine chances.

Ross Detwiler (0-1) lost in relief.
