Free teen cardiac screenings held in Scripps Ranch

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Screen your teen! That was the message at a free heart clinic Sunday at Scripps Ranch High School.

The screenings check for heart abnormalities that can put teens at risk for sudden cardiac arrest or SCA.

The condition can go undetected and strike without warning, often resulting in death.

"This is the fifth year we've been screening and we've screen over 10,000 in that time frame, in free heart screenings and we've found over a 100 at risk for sudden cardiac arrest because of a heart abnormality they did not know they had," Mareen Legg said.

Clinic authorities say 900 teens were screen at the event Sunday. Nine were found to be at risk for SCA. To find out more about future clinics, go to epsavealife.org.
