Van stolen from Boys & Girls Club in Solana Beach

SOLANA BEACH (CBS 8) - A local branch of the Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito is left scrambling after a 12-person van they relied upon to transport dozens of kids after school was stolen over the weekend.

"Frankly, it's just very sad that it has to come down to this," said David Crean, CEO of the Boy & Girls Clubs of San Dieguito, "Taking from a non-profit where those vans are used for kids. Its a little disheartening to see that happen to a non-profit like the Boy and Girls Club."

The van was used to transport kids to two different branches of the Boys & Girls Club in Solana Beach every day after school, so they could participate in the the club's activities. The van was also used to transport the kids on field trips.

The 2002 white Ford E-350 Super Duty (License Number 4KZS 809) was last seen in the rear lot of the club's Harper Branch on Lomas Santa Fe Drive on Friday. This Monday, it was gone, with shattered glass on the pavement where it had been parked.

"We noticed that there was glass there and the logical deduction was, it was stolen," Crean said. "We contacted authorities."

Even though there are two surveillance cameras monitoring the club's rear parking lot, because of where the van was parked off to the side, the van was not captured on video.

"I didn't really believe it at first because I didn't think anybody would actually do that.," said 12-year-old Gabe Gorgas, who has been a faithful member of the Boys & Girls Club for years.

"I'm definitely going to miss that thing," Gorgas added, "because I come here everyday after school since 2nd grade to come here for day care and stuff. It'd kind of crazy that it's gone now."

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of this van, which had the Boys & Girls Club logo marked on its side, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.

If you would like to donate either money or a vehicle to the Boys and Girls Club of San Dieguito, you can contact Annie Ragovin at (858) 793-7345.
