1 killed when police pursuit ends in crash

EL CAJON (CBS 8) - One person is dead after a police pursuit ends in a crash in El Cajon.

The chase ended around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday on Madison Avenue and Grape Street. Several other cars were damaged.

"I heard a loud crash and my bedroom window was right there where the police were chasing him," said witness Iada Salcido.
"I could hear the car coming really quick and it must've lost control or something."

It all started when an officer tried to pull over a driver during a traffic stop. Instead, the driver of the silver Honda Accord led police on a high-speed chase for about a mile.

The suspect drove west on East Madison Avenue near Granite Hills Drive, then slammed into the rear of a parked car and then another.

The impact turned the Honda to the left and ejected the driver onto the road. A nearby medic tried to revive the man but it was too late.

"It's sad, you never know what's going to happen," Salcido said.

The medical examiner has not yet identified the man. Police are trying to find out who owned the vehicle.
