California Drought: Concerns in San Diego County

Posted: Updated:

CHULA VISTA (CBS 8) - California’s drought is coming at a cost not only to the environment, but to local residents and businesses as water rates increase.

One Chula Vista woman says she has a pool and a beautiful yard but is conscience about how much water she uses.

"We have to do our part to make sure we have good water,” said Carol Gove.

In Chula Vista, Deputy Mayor Pat Aguilar and Councilmember Mary Salas held a water forum for families and business owners to better understand the state of water in the area. Meanwhile, the San Diego City Council's Environmental Committee has recommended a drought watch, which would institute voluntary conservation measures aimed at cutting citywide water use by 10 percent.

In this video report CBS News 8’s Abbie Alford explains why Chula Vista is a leader in water conservation in Southern California.
