Padres sign Cuban RHP Despaigne to $1 million deal

SAN DIEGO (AP) - The San Diego Padres have signed 27-year-old Cuban right-hander Odrisamer Despaigne to a minor league contract.

He receives a $1 million signing bonus in the deal, which was announced Friday.

He played professionally for the Havana Industriales of Cuba's Serie Nacional for eight seasons, going 61-43 with a 3.55 ERA. He had 684 strikeouts and 390 walks in 213 games.
