Old bumper cars turned into street-legal beauties

Posted: Updated:
SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Many people like to spend their free time tinkering around the house. But one local man's hobby is really shifting into high gear.

Tom Wright takes old bumper cars and transforms them into elaborately detailed autos that can legally be driven on the road.

If you would like to see Tom's cars, he's taking all of them on the road July 4th. They'll be featured in Escondido near the corner of Broadway and Grand from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Watch the above video to see CBS News 8’s Steve Price take some of the cars out for a spin.

Some of the footage in this video was shot using a GoPro camera.
