SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Once upon a time, Imelda Marcos had a dream that she traveled to a land far away called Hillcrest, where the Assistance League thrift store was having a gigantic sale of new and gently used footwear, about which Barbara Hansen has a good understanding.

"We have about 1,500 pairs of shoes for men, women and kids," Barbara said. "The basic shoe price range $3 for some of the children's shoes, up to $15 for some of the men's and women's shoes."

And then there are some shoes that would make Carrie Bradshaw swoon.

"Shoes that sold for hundreds of dollars and those are priced up to $30," Barbara said.

"We buy brand new uniforms, and actually some other clothes for school age kids. Last year, we clothed with uniforms over 2,500 kids," she said.

There's a table full of Nike, New Balance and Merrill sports shoes for men.

"All the rest of the shoes in the middle of the room are for women," Barbara said.

The Assistance League thrift store is located at the corner of 1st and University. The sale begins Tuesday at 11am, but get there early if you want to beat Imelda Marcos.
