SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A community rallies behind families who have lost their homes to the flames. But no one expected this outpouring.

A community group in San Elijo known as "SHES" wanted to help two families who lost their homes. One in Carlsbad and the other in San Marcos.

They put out the word for donations on Facebook and received an abundance of toys, books, clothing, furniture, cash and gift cards.

Members of one family can't believe the generosity.

"You can have a sorrow type disaster and then you see the togetherness and the love and what people really want to do and show," said Stanley Sekerke, who lost his home in the fire.

The group plans to give away the remaining donations to at least 39 other families that suffered losses in the fire.
