OCEANSIDE (CBS 8) - Street racing may be to blame for a major crash that sent four people to the hospital. They're reportedly in serious condition Thursday morning.

Three people were trapped inside two cars that crashed head-on just after 7:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 4500 block of Douglas Drive.

Firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to cut the victims out of the vehicles. The fourth victim, a motorcyclist, was pinned underneath the wreckage.

Authorities say that stretch of road is especially dangerous.

"We actually have a problem with this road. This is the second major accident I've had in three days. A lot of head-on accidents along this stretch,” said Captain David Parsons with the Oceanside Fire Department.

All four people were air-lifted to local trauma centers. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
