Calexico Creamery: Dreamy creamery for rent

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - On the road to success, two young entrepreneurs have converted a mom and pop RV into a rolling creamery which, I'll have you know, is not from Calexico.

"We always liked the name. It's a cool name. There's a cool band from Calexico," Ivan Feerman said.

Monique and Ivan Feerman have their dream in tow to bring their unique frozen treats to special events.

"We want to be able to participate more in weddings and catering events and birthdays," Ivan said.

They've been bringing their blended flavors of 100 percent organic, homemade ice cream to the North Park and La Jolla farmers markets since January.

"We've matched both ingredients coming from California with Mexican-inspired recipes," Ivan said.

"The Mexican hot chocolate and the Mexican vanilla bean are two staples. They are always there," Monique said. "Chocolate from Oaxaca, so it's really dark and rich and delicious. Vanilla beans from Mexico as well."

After that, the menu is an epicurean evolution of dairy delights.

"We just want to keep our menu changing all the time, just so people will stay interested in what we have to offer," Monique said.

The Calexico Creamery's offerings reflect the time of year. With blueberries in season, they've whipped up some blueberry bourbon ice cream.

"We're influenced both by the recipes that we love or the things we see in the market," Monique said.

Their handcrafted treats left quite an impression on our CBS News 8 family and friends. But come on. Who's going to complain about free gourmet ice cream trailered right up to your backdoor?

"It's just a nice way and a nice touch and doing something unique," Ivan said.

Ivan and Monique are hoping to hitch their wagon to a star.

Some of the footage used in this video report was shot using a GoPro camera.
