Steele Canyon High School senior earns bowling scholarship

Posted: Updated:

EL CAJON (CBS 8) – Today I'm being taken to school by a high school senior.

Brittany Crittenden's sport of choice is bowling. She'll be attending Baker University in Kansas next year on a scholarship.

"I wouldn't call it a sport…it's like chess. It's an activity that takes a lot of knowledge, more knowledge than people understand," said said.

Brittany's high score is 277. Her average, around 180. She was introduced to the sport by her father.

"Couldn't me more proud, it's awesome to watch. Great feeling," father Jim said.

No debate how the student is bowling today. Despite the well-planned, perfectly executed shot of bouncing the ball down the gutter, I learn another hard lesson.

My instructor is very good at what she does, and very good at teaching it. The student on the other hand, is failing class.

In addition to the bowling scholarship, Brittany is also on an academic scholarship for a 4.0 GPA and a presidential scholarship. She also competes in swimming and water polo at Steele Canyon.

Hall of Famers Reggie Jackson and Jim Rice didn't do it. Neither did Mark McGwire, Albert Pujols, Jim Thome, Barry Bonds nor any other opposing slugger who played at Kansas City.
