New plan for Balboa Park centennial celebration

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Organizers of next year's Balboa Park centennial have come up with a new plan for the celebration.

Instead of a series of events that was to run throughout the year, the celebration will be held over one weekend in the spring.

Tentative plans call for transforming the park into how it looked in 1915, with roving performers in period costumes.

Organizers say they have settled their differences over transparency in the planning process.

"It's not just person's vision. It's something we all want and all the groups are behind," Jaye Macaskill of Save Our Heritage Organisation said.

The Balboa Park Conservancy also announced efforts to raise money to restore the iconic botanical building at the center of the park.
