New patrol bikes donated to SDPD

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Thanks to a generous donation, the San Diego Police Department now has five brand new patrol bicycles.

Councilwoman Marti Emerald donated the money for the bikes after hearing several safety concerns from residents of the College Area.

The bikes are built specifically for police work and allow officers to get to places where a patrol car can't.

"It just gives us one more way to go out and really combat crime and work with the community and make our neighborhoods safer," Officer Dean Thomas said.

The bikes cost $2,000 each. Officers say they are vital tools for patrolling our community.
