2 unconscious swimmers rescued in Encinitas

Posted: Updated:
ENCINITAS (CBS 8) - Lifeguards in Encinitas pulled two unconscious swimmers from the waters of the north end of Moonlight Beach Thursday afternoon.

Authorities say the two unidentified males, who never regained consciousness, were rushed to Scripps Encinitas in critical condition.

They are both described as Hispanic, one of whom was a juvenile. The other victim may be in his late teens or early 20s.

The two victims were caught in a strong rip current at around 2:20 p.m. Several other swimmers, caught in the same current, were able to get themselves to shore without help from lifeguards.

Lifeguards warn that these strong rip currents along the local coastline will continue for the next four to five days.
