    The fight continues to free a former Marine who has spent more than a month locked up in a Mexican jail. Andrew Tahmooressi missed an exit and accidentally drove across the border. He was arrested when Mexican police found guns in his vehicle.

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - Supporters of a Marine veteran, being held in a Mexican prison, now say they expect the White House to get involved.

Saturday, an online petition asking the president to secure the release of Andrew Tahmooressi, reached 100,000 signatures. It's a number that typically receives a response from the administration.

Supporters also held a rally at the border Saturday for Tahmooressi.

Tahmooressi crossed into Mexico with three guns in his truck, claiming he made a wrong turn at the border crossing because of confusing signs. Mexican officials say he entered the line marked "nothing to declare" at the San Ysidro Border Crossing. He was visiting a friend in Mexico and admits having a girlfriend in Tijuana.

Tahmooressi was arrested March 31 and has been behind bars for two months. If Tahmooressi is convicted, he faces six to 21 years in a Mexican prison, according to his lawyers. Or the case could be dropped by the Mexican attorney general's office in Mexico City.

A published report in a Mexican magazine article reveals that Andrew Tahmooressi actually stayed in a hotel room in Tijuana on the day he was arrested. The report in Zeta, a Tijuana newspaper, goes on to says he returned to the U.S. for his truck, and the newspaper claims to have a hotel receipt as proof.
