Sleeping on the job at Eastlake High School

Posted: Updated:
CHULA VISTA (CBS 8) - Parents at Eastlake High School are voicing their concerns over what they say is an ongoing problem with the school's security guards.

An Eastlake High School parent, who wanted to remain anonymous, emailed us a picture showing who they say is David Gallegos. Gallegos is a campus assistant who's partially responsible for security, and in the photo, he appears to be sleeping on the job.

The photo was snapped during school and we're told the area is a very public place. The parent, who didn't want to go on camera, said conduct like this is unacceptable when Gallegos is entrusted to be vigilant and protect students.

CBS News 8 found out Gallegos is also the school's head baseball coach. In his online profile, it says he's been at Eastlake High School for 14 years. It adds that under him, the school's baseball team has been very successful and says he's known as a fair coach who has the interests of his players in mind at all times.

We reached out to the district for a comment and they confirmed the incident. They sent us a statement saying:

"It is a personnel matter and it is being handled through our Human Resources Dept. They are Aware of it. He is a campus assistant. That is the actual title of that job. That position is responsible for everything from security to helping with special events. Every campus has two to four such employees. The person remains employed."
