Tiffany Nowden of San Diego was in a relationship with the victim, 38-year-old Russina Vale, said Lt. Mike Hastings of the San Diego Police Department's Homicide Unit.

Vale was found dead of apparent blunt force trauma to her upper body when officers were sent around 6 p.m. Thursday to an apartment in the 7700 block of Mission Gorge Road to check on her welfare, Hastings said.

Nowden is black, 5 feet 9 inches tall and 190 pounds with brown eyes and hair.

Anyone with information regarding her whereabouts was urged to contact San Diego police at (619) 531-2000.
