SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - GoPro founder and UC San Diego alum Nick Woodman made a rare appearance on campus today as part of the school's alumni weekend.

Woodman graduated from UC San Diego in 1997 with a visual arts degree. He released the first GoPro camera in 2004. Now the company is worth an estimated $2.2 billion.

Woodman says his time at UC San Diego played a big role in the creation of GoPro.

"This is where I learned about my love of visual arts, love of photography, my love of surfing and go pro is just the culmination of my passions," he said.

We will have much more with Nick Woodman, including his advice for young entrepreneurs, on Monday on CBS News 8 at 5.
