Three injured in explosion of suspected hash oil operation

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - An explosion possibly caused by an illicit drug-manufacturing operation injured three people at a Mira Mesa apartment complex Friday, authorities reported.

The blast in the 10100 block of Camino Ruiz occurred about 3 p.m., according to the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Medics took two men and a woman, all aged 19, to UCSD Medical Center in Hillcrest for treatment of apparently non-life-threatening burns, SDFRD spokesman Lee Swanson said.

Investigators determined that the three allegedly had decided to try to make hash oil, a concentrated marijuana extract, after watching a video that demonstrated how to do it, Cali said.

The process of extracting the viscous narcotic from cannabis leaves often involves the use of highly flammable liquid butane.
