Man rescued after fall above Black's Beach

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Emergency crews came to the rescue Thursday of a man who was injured when he fell partway down a sheer sea bluff above Black's Beach.

The accident near Torrey Pines Gliderport was reported about 1:45 p.m., according to the San Diego Lifeguard Service.

A rescuer rappelled about 100 feet down the cliff to where the hiker was stranded and loaded him into a transport apparatus, lifeguard Lt. Nick Lerma said.

An emergency-services helicopter crew lifted the man off the precipice shortly after 3 p.m., then flew him to nearby Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla for treatment of a leg injury.
