Globetrotters holding basketball clinics for kids

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - They're known for their skills and thrills on the basketball court. On Tuesday, members of the Harlem Globetrotters are back in town on a mission.

They're hosting 30 basketball clinics for kids at 24-Hour Fitness centers. Each session lasts several hours, and the kids get to drill and trade jokes with the players.

But the message the Globetrotters want the kids to take away is a serious one.

"You know, I wanted to be a Harlem Globetrotter when I was six years old. Never wanted to do anything else in life. I saw old 'Scooby-Do' and I wanted to either solve mysteries or play with the Globetrotters. So it's important to me to get out there and tell kids they can be anything their put their mind to," Globetrotter Handles Franklin said.

The clinics are open to all kids age six to 12, regardless of skill.
