Video released in road rage incident that left man injured

EL CAJON (CNS) - Authorities Wednesday renewed their call for information that could lead them to the man who punched a 76-year-old man in the face following a road rage incident in El Cajon nearly two months ago.

The assault in a CVS parking lot at 572 Fletcher Parkway on the morning of April 30 left the victim with major injuries requiring two reconstructive surgeries, according to El Cajon police and Crime Stoppers. The incident was caught on surveillance video.

Victim Ron Torncello, an Army veteran, has since increased the amount being offered for information leading to an arrest from up to $1,000 to $2,500, in hopes that someone will come forward to identify the suspect, authorities said.

Torncello told CBS News 8 he's still recovering from the attack.

"I can't see, I can't drive, there are lots of things I can't do. I can't sleep right," he said.

He says he believes the incident began after the suspect saw him using his cell phone while driving.

"He says 'You're using your cell phone and I got you on video,' and I said I don't really care and that's when he hauled off and, bam," Torncello said.

After the assault, Torncello said a witness stepped in to help while the suspect ran off.

The attack has left detectives stunned.

"That probably could have been handled 100 different ways that didn't include violence," El Cajon Police Department Sgt. Jason Taub said.

Police said the suspect left the scene in a newer red SUV-type vehicle. He was described as white, at least 6 feet tall with a muscular build, and was wearing a white t-shirt, dark shorts and a baseball cap with "UFC" on the front.

Anyone with information on the assault was asked to call El Cajon Police at (619) 579-3320, or contact Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477 or via email at
