DUI checkpoint nets 14 in Pacific Beach

SAN DIEGO (CNS) - San Diego police netted 14 DUI drivers in a checkpoint that wrapped up early this morning in Pacific Beach, an officer said.

The checkpoint operated in the 2600 block of Ingraham Street from 11 p.m. Saturday until 3 a.m. Sunday, said San Diego police Officer Mark McCullough.

More than 1000 vehicles passed through the checkpoint with 606 screened by officers, McCullough said. "Twenty-nine motorists were detained for further evaluation of their sobriety and 14 arrests were made for DUI in or near the checkpoint," he said. "Fifteen vehicles were also impounded."

The message is simple, McCullough said. "Drive sober or get pulled over. If you plan to consume alcohol you should also plan not to get behind the wheel of a vehicle or ride a motorcycle."
