Brush fire burns 3.5 acres near Elfin Forest

Posted: Updated:

SAN MARCOS (CBS 8) - Some tense moments Sunday when flames broke out in San Marcos.

The fire started near Fortuna Del Este in Elfin Forest. Nearly two dozen fire engines responded and air drops were ordered.

The flames briefly threatened homes but crews managed to hold the fire to about three and a half acres.

"We're all on pins and needles. This area is so fire prone and we've got a real tight community here, the fire station, the fire chief's great. We've got folks that share tests and e-mails on anything that looks like it's up," said resident Jim Cahill.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
