IMPERIAL BEACH (CNS/CBS 8) - Two people were hospitalized Tuesday after a fire at their home in Imperial Beach, authorities said.

The fire at 914 Fern Ave. was reported shortly after 10 p.m. Monday and fire crews had it knocked down less than 20 minutes later, according to the county sheriff's department and the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department.

Witnesses reported hearing explosions. Firefighters say they found some kind of oil at the scene.

People living in the house were forced to climb out of the windows.

"I heard muffled explosions and screaming. I ran out and noticed the house behind mine was on fire," said neighbor Greg Schultz.

"We had reports of minor burns and smoke inhalation on two victims - one male, one female who were residing in the unit," said Chula Vista Battalion Chief David Lacosta.

Damage is estimated at about $200,000 and the house is gutted. Investigators are trying to determine the cause.

The conditions of the injured were not immediately released.
