Police investigate shooting death in El Cajon

EL CAJON (CBS 8) - A man was found shot to death in a courtyard at an apartment in El Cajon overnight. Authorities say he was a black man in his mid-30's.

Sheriff’s deputies say he was gunned down at the 1400 block of Graves Avenue near an apartment complex, where evidence technicians combed the scene after the shooting. The victim's body was taken away in the coroner's white minivan.

Residents called 911 after hearing gunshots around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday. When police arrived, residents pointed to the victim on the ground at the apartment complex.

"Sheriff’s Deputies checked and the man had no pulse," said Lt. Jeffrey Duckworth.

Detectives have not arrested anyone or found persons of interest yet.

An autopsy will be conducted. The victim hasn't been identified as of this report.
