San Diego comes through for the Red Shoe

Posted: Updated:

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - At a fashionable 4S Ranch intersection, red is the new black and our Carlo Cecchetto is all about the boot.

"It's kind of a strange thing to say, but I work this corner," he said.

He's not alone. Donna Edans, the chair of the board of trustees at Ronald McDonald House was also lending her support.

"I'm going to go bang on some cars and get some money," she said.

There was music in the air and dancing in the streets. The signs were everywhere. It's was a block party. Even in the morning rush, generous San Diegans took time to make a donation.

With over 1,300 volunteers across the county, this was a scene that could happen on any corner. In Kearny Mesa at Convoy and Clairemont Mesa, JACK-FM's Sara Perry was there with the Jack Pack.

"It's such a good cause. Who doesn't want to help children, right? And it's pretty fun to hang out with a big red shoe," Sara said.

Donations big and small all add up to help families of seriously ill or injured children in need who seek comfort and shelter at Ronald McDonald House, and all the money raised Thursday stays right here in San Diego. As the shoes came rolling in, Ronald McDonald House President and CEO and bagman Chuck Daly was all smiles.

"We got a check for $1,000, a lot of $100 bills, been dropped in these bags, pesos," he said.

It's amazing how much good you can do with a big red shoe.

This morning's drive raised an amazing 190 thousand dollars. If you missed your opportunity, it's not too late to donate. Just CLICK HERE >>.
