SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - San Diego police are still looking for the person or persons responsible for a shooting that left three men injured and one dead.

It happened last night on the 600 block of Thermal Avenue at a trailer park near Imperial Beach.

Residents there say the man who died was not the intended target.

One witness, who did not want to be identified, says she is shocked and saddened that a man known as “Mayito” is now dead following a quadruple shooting.

"He was nice... he was really relaxed. He didn't harm anybody," she said.

It happened around 9:45 p.m. Friday. Even as the sun came up this morning, detectives were still on the scene.

According to witnesses, some type of argument broke out on the street followed by a series of gunshots.

When police arrived they found a total of four victims.

"Actually they were in four different locations…our one who was deceased. He was first contacted by our officers attempted life saving techniques but he did pass away at the scene," San Diego police Lt. Paul Rorrison said.

Neighbors tell CBS News 8 -- Mayito -- who is in his 30’s and had been living in this trailer park for years -- was simply outside to break up the fight.

According to them, his twin cousins and another relative, all in their 20’s, were the three others who were hit.

Their injuries are non-life threatening.

"He was just in the wrong place with the wrong person," the witness said.

As for the suspect or suspects, investigators have not released a description but did say a compact dark colored 4-door vehicle was seen leaving the area.

They are relying on witnesses to help make an arrest and are urging others who have information to come forward.

"It is rare…and I'm kinda scared but I think it was just that one event that caused this that was unnecessary," the woman said.

Neighbors also tell us the victim leaves behind a wife and stepchildren. We reached out to the family but they did not want to comment.
