Police out in full force to keep San Diegans safe

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - The San Diego Police Department will be out in full force this holiday weekend to make sure that everyone can enjoy a fun and safe Fourth of July.

More than one million people are expected to visit San Diego beaches this Independence Day weekend, and the police department wants to make sure that everyone puts safety first.

"We want people to come out here and enjoy the holiday weekend, but we are going to be conducting maximum enforcement, looking for drunk drivers. So if you make the terrible decision to drink and drive, you should expect to be stopped by one of our officers," Police Chief Shelley Zimmerman said.

The chief also asks San Diegans to be patient while traveling to and from the bay for the fireworks shows.
