SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - If you're not on the road, maybe you're in the water. Safe boating means obeying the rules of the ocean.
San Diego lifeguards say wearing a life jacket is as important as wearing your seatbelt in a car and can reduce drowning deaths by 80 percent.
Of course, don't drink and drive and make sure you obey speed zones when you are boating near swimmers and surfers.
And you should know that the rules are different for Mission Bay than in the open water.
