St. Vincent de Paul serves lunch to those in need

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) – Volunteers with St. Vincent de Paul Village looked beyond a good meal with their own families on this Fourth of July.

The charity rolled out the tables downtown on Friday to serve lunch to the homeless and those in need. About 80 volunteers served up hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad and a heaping portion of hope.

"There's always tomorrow. It's the land of opportunity. What we want to do is help them get back into that mode. Tomorrow will be better, but let's have a good hamburger today," Father Joe Carroll said.

San Diego is home to over 9,000 homeless men, women and families.
