Fire damages garage and condo units

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - A smoky fire at a condominium complex in University City left a garage in shambles and two people out of their homes.

Flames were reported at about 6:15 p.m. Saturday in the 5200 block of Fiore Terrace.

When fire crews arrived, smoke was pouring out of the garage and the windows of the upstairs unit.

It took crews about 15 minutes to knock down the flames and rescue two dogs from the condo.

"Nobody was home at the time. The owner had two dogs upstairs. We got them out safely. The owner had just left for dinner and he turned around and came back when he was... Some friend called him about it," said Lee Swanson, San Diego Fire-Rescue.

A Porsche inside the garage and two condo units suffered heavy smoke damage. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
