National Sports Fundraising Franchise Launches National Coaches Day Website to Revive Official Holiday and Honor Top Coaches
Manchester, Connecticut (PRWEB) July 08, 2014
More than 40 years after President Richard Nixon created National Coaches Day, NFP Sports has brought if off the bench and back into the game.
NFP Sports, the nations first and fastest growing franchise specializing in high impact high school sports fundraising programs, has announced open nominations for the inaugural National Coaches Day Award to be presented on the anniversary of President Nixons proclamation, October 6th. The winner will receive the official National Coaches Day award, a $2,500 grant for their program, a National Coaches Day banner to hang in their school, and an all-expenses paid trip for two to catch their favorite local professional sports team in action.
We know how important coaches are to their players and their communities, and we wanted to create a way for people to publicly show their gratitude in the days leading up to National Coaches Day, said Crouch. Few people realize it, but President Nixon created an official National Coaches Day on October 6, 1972, and too little has been done to recognize coaches on their big day. We have taken it upon ourselves to help establish an awards program through which people can celebrate coach and help us revive the National Coaches Day holiday on October 6, 2014.
Nominations are taking place on nationalcoachesday.com where people can vote for outstanding coaches who make a positive impact in the lives of youth and amateur athletes. NFP Sports Co-Founder, Don Crouch, says the website will accept nominations and votes for top coaches until the end of August the perfect time for young athletes on summer break to drum up support for their favorite coach.
Anyone is welcome to nominate and vote for their favorite coach to win the National Coaches Day award. The grand prize winner will be announced on October 6, 2014 and will take home the official National Coaches Day award and prize package.
Heres the playbook to nominate and vote for favorite coaches:
This National Coaches Day Awards program is part of NFP Sports mission to save high school sports from devastating financial challenges. Recent research shows that while high school sports are still a critical part of American culture, few high school programs are finding effective ways to cope with budget cuts. Some important numbers to consider:
We expect the National Coaches Day Awards program to generate national exposure for hundreds of coaches who are struggling with debilitating funding issues, says Crouch. We believe the heart-warming stories shared by young athletes who nominate their coaches will shed light on the importance of high school sports and help great coaches save their programs.
About National Coaches Day:
In 1972, President Richard Nixon released Proclamation 4157 declaring October 6 to be National Coaches Day. The proclamation stated, Coaches are highly qualified teachersin highly specialized fields. But more than that, they are friends and counselors who help to instill in their charges important attitudes that will serve them all their lives. A coach can help to teach a student the value of teamwork, discipline, and a healthy attitude towards competition. A coach can help build that moral fiber on which our future as a nation depends.
In September, 2013, California Congressman Jerry McNerney (D-Stockton) wrote to President Obama to ask that Oct. 6th officially be designated as National Coaches Day. Congressman McNerney became aware of the previous designation by President Nixon through a letter sent to him by Madeline Woznick, a 12-year-old student from his district. Congressman McNerney received over 100 other letters of support from students in his district that he sent to the White House, along with his letter asking that Oct. 6th be designated as National Coaches Day.
