Free, hot fun in the summertime

SAN MARCOS (CBS 8) - The sweet spot of our San Diego summer can be discovered in the rolling hills of San Marcos.

"It's one of the most beautiful hidden places in San Marcos," one resident said.

Lakeview Park is an oasis of natural delights for those on foot, or wheels, or just cooling their heels.

"It's always peaceful. There's always families," a resident said.

Summer scenes that look like they are straight out of the "Andy Griffith Show."

"You got the trails. You've got the lake to fish. The kids can play in the park," a resident said.

And every hour or so, almost on the hour or so, Lakeview Park's fountain erupts to chorus of summertime squeals. For the little ones, it's an unabashed blast.

"It's great. The kids love coming here and we play in the water and go down to the lake and feed the ducks. It's beautiful here," a resident said.

More about Lakeview Park in a moment, but first this important announcement.

"Avery is 10 months old today," his grandmother said.

He's spending the day getting a face full of fountain and tons of attention from grandma, enjoying the total Lakeview Park experience.

"He went down and fed the ducks. We did that first. We did that and then we came up here to play in the water," she said.

Meanwhile, back at the lake, you can give the ducks their daily bread, though they may be overfed. Or you can bear witness the natural beauty of a San Marcos morn.

Cost of summer's day at Lakeview Park: nothing. Memories: priceless.

Some of the footage used in this video story was shot using a GoPro camera.
