CORONADO (CBS 8) - Dozens of refugee students from Iraq are getting accustomed to the San Diego lifestyle by getting in the water.
Outdoor Outreach and El Cajon Valley High School held kayak and paddleboard lessons at Tidelands Park in Coronado. It's part of a three-week summer program that helps students from war-torn countries adjust to living in a new environment and culture in San Diego.
"It's so fun. Some people are falling in the water, and we're just having fun," student Mohammed Mohammed said.
Students also learned about being environmental stewards by taking part in a beach and park cleanup with San Diego Coastkeeper.
