Rainbow resident attacked in his home

RAINBOW (CNS) - A burglary suspect who was high on PCP and who claimed to be armed with a handgun while assaulting a Rainbow resident was arrested Wednesday after a struggle with sheriff's deputies who zapped him with a stun gun, authorities said.

The events that culminated with the arrest of Fallbrook resident Michael Duitsman, 33, began shortly before 12:30 a.m. when he entered a bedroom at a home in the 5100 block of First Street near Huffstatler Street, crashing through a window, sheriff's Sgt. David Pocklington said.

A resident called for help, saying Duitsman was fighting with her husband and had yelled that he had a handgun, Pocklington said, adding that there was no evidence that the suspect was armed.

Deputies arrived to hear screaming from inside the home and saw the man who lives there struggling with the suspect. Pocklington said Duitsman struck the man several times with a flashlight, but the resident sustained only minor injuries.

Deputies went in through the broken window and used their stun guns to subdue the suspect after a brief struggle, Pocklington said. Duitsman suffered minor injuries, was checked out, then booked into jail on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, resisting arrest and being under the influence of a controlled substance.

A deputy suffered a minor injury to his hand while jumping through the broken window, Pocklington said.
