New program aims to save energy, cut utility bills

SAN DIEGO (CBS 8) - City and county officials are urging homeowners to plug into a new loan program aimed at reducing energy and water use.

PACE -- or Property Assessed Clean Energy -- eliminates the upfront costs for many energy and water efficiency improvements while reducing the operational expenses of owning a home.

Supervisor Dianne Jacob says homeowners deserve some relief.

"The point is, go solar. Be energy efficient. This is a really good thing. It's great for the economy and who does not love a smaller utility bill," Jacob said.

Renovate America's Hero Program is making these loans available starting this week in the cities of San Diego, El Cajon and Escondido, along with the region's unincorporated areas.
