SAN DIEGO (CNS) - A 23-year-old man already jailed on an unrelated charge was re-arrested Thursday on suspicion of taking part in an assault that killed a Chula Vista resident last month during a weekend dispute in the Gaslamp District.
Mahad A. Ahmed of San Diego was expected to face a murder charge over the death of Michael Beaver, 25, according to police.
About 1 a.m. June 15, Beaver got into a dispute with a group of men and women for unknown reasons in the 500 block of F Street, homicide Lt. Mike Hastings said.
After exchanging hostile words with Beaver, three of the others -- two men and a woman -- pummeled him in the upper body. They then walked off along with another woman, leaving Beaver unconscious on the sidewalk.
Medics took Beaver to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Surveillance cameras captured images of the assailants.
Roughly five hours after the deadly confrontation, Ahmed was booked on suspicion of a parole violation, according to jail records.
