TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. (CBS 8) -- We are learning more about the case of a pregnant Marine wife who has been missing for 12 days in Twentynine Palms.

CBS News 8 has confirmed the location where the young woman's vehicle was found in the desert and it is nowhere near Joshua Tree National Park, where search teams continue to focus their efforts.

A water district employee found Erin Corwin's 2013 Toyota Corolla at approximately 9:30 a.m. on Monday, June 30 about two miles from her home on base, the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms.

The water district's general manager, Tamara Alaniz, spoke with CBS News 8 in a telephone interview but she would not name the employee.

Tamara Alaniz - Edited Telephone Interview:

“I recall him saying it was parked off the road. It's off the beaten path unless you're going to the base or you live near the base,” Alaniz said.  “The significant news coverage definitely contributed to him recognizing the car and reporting it to the (San Bernardino) sheriff’s department."

Corwin,19, is three months pregnant and has been missing since June 28.

Her husband, U.S. Marine Corporal Jonathan Corwin, 21, reported to deputies that his wife left the base at 7:00 a.m. to check out photography locations inside nearby Joshua Tree National Park.

Her car was found near the intersection of Valle Vista Rd. and Ranch Rd., which is more than eight miles from Joshua Tree.

“It's nowhere near the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. It’s on the other side of Twentynine Palms from where the park entrance is,” said Alaniz, who lives in the area.

The water district manager said her employee did not approach the vehicle or look inside.

“He did leave the site and they asked him to come back so that they could verify where his truck had been; and taking a look at the scene to compare tire tracks and whatnot and they did release him,” Alaniz said.

No suspects have been named in Corwin's disappearance and it remains unclear whether a crime has been committed.

Officials have not confirmed whether Corwin was spotted on surveillance video entering or exiting Joshua Tree National Park.
