Baby killed in fall from window ruled an accident

CHULA VISTA (CNS) - The death of an 11-month-old girl who fell from the third-story window of a Chula Vista apartment has been ruled an accident, the county Medical Examiner's Office reported Friday.

Aaliyah Belen Ramirez was playing on a bed near her father, who was talking on the phone around 6:40 p.m. Monday, at the family's home at 1251 Santa Cora Avenue, according to the Medical Examiner's Office and Chula Vista police. Police said her mother was also home at the time.

The man reached over to feel for the baby, but she was no longer there. He then looked at the edge of the bed and saw Aaliyah fall through the screen of the bedroom window and onto the concrete driveway below, officials with the Medical Examiner's Office said.

The girl's father rushed outside and grabbed her, and a neighbor called for help, authorities said. Paramedics found her unresponsive and attempted to revive her.

She was airlifted to Rady Children's Hospital, where she died from blunt force trauma shortly before 8 p.m. Monday, police and the Medical Examiner's Office said.
