Surfing dogs draw crowds at Imperial Beach

Posted: Updated:
IMPERIAL BEACH (CBS 8) - It's called the largest dog surfing competition in America and Sunday pet owners gathered for Unleashed by Petco.

Hundreds of spectators came out to cheer on the surfing pups riding the waves in Imperial Beach.

The event is for a great cause and raises funds for the San Diego Humane Society.

"We're out here having a fun afternoon and enjoying time with our dogs but in the long run it's actually saving animal lives," said Judy Fridono.

About 50 dogs participated in Sunday's event.

Some of the footage in this video report was filmed using a GoPro camera.
